Did the Wright brothers soar in the sky first? Was Leonardo da Vinci the first to describe “machines of the future”?

Centuries before Orville and Wilbur Wright took flight, Abbas ibn Farnas was soaring over the hilly Spanish countryside in a one-man glider - a thousand years before the famed Wright flight in North Carolina.

Al-Jazari busied himself laying the foundations of modern engineering and writing the Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices in 1206, where he described fifty mechanical devices along with instructions on how to build them, more than 200 years before Leonardo da Vinci became revered for his technological ingenuity.

Challenge your perspective.

Volunteer Extra Credit Assignment

Supplies for Ms. McVay's Classes

Dear Price Families,

On the school website you will find a link to the general supply list for your child's grade. Thank you so much for making sure that your student has the materials needed to be prepared for class each day. It really improves our efficiency in class when students can staple their homework or sharpen their pencils without needing to stand in line and wait for a turn.

At the bottom of the list, after those important supplies each student needs in his or her backpack, you will find a list of items appreciated in the classroom. The boxes of tissue, sanitizing wipes, and hand sanitizer are so important for keeping the environment of our class clean and healthy. Any donation of such items is very much appreciated.

As a final note on supplies, it is my intention to encourage positive behavior from the students by “paying” them a salary for their hard work. This means I will hold “shopping sprees” at which they can spend the money they have earned. Donations of small items like pens, pencils, erasers, small treats, or any other small, highly coveted item for the “store” would help to make this program of reinforcement a success.

Thanks you so much! I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!

Best Regards,

Ms. McVay

•  A 100 to 200 word account that details the sights, sounds, smells, etc. of your environment and explains what you do and why. (example: the fiery rays of sunlight peeked out of the mists when we set off this morning. My father and I ate thick slabs of rich brown bread washed down with cool barley water. The slaves loaded our large wooden boat with barrels of sweet, ripe dates and sacks of barley. I recorded each one as it went by on my accounting scroll.
